2021 Favourite Reads

"Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us" - Har Borland

With 2021 coming to an end, we've decided to share with you some of our favourite reads. Throughout the year, we've enjoyed many books, but there were a few that we feel will stay with us for longer.

Cay's Top 3

3. Ring - Koji Suzuki

Favourite quote: There's nothing certain in our future! All we can hope for is a vague continuation. But in spite of that, you're going to keep on living. You can't give up on life just because it's vague. It's a question of possibilities...

2. You'll Be the Death of Me - Karen M. McManus

Favourite quote: You can be right in principle and still wrong in approach.

1. My Dark Vanessa - Kate Elizabeth Russell

Favourite quote: ...by believing our lives have endless possibilities, we stave off the horrifying truth that to live is merely to move forward through time while an internal clock counts down to a final, fatal moment.

3. One of Us is Lying - Karen M. McManus

Favourite quote: I don't know why it's so hard for people to admit that sometimes they're just [jerks] who screw up because they don't expect to get caught.

2. They Both Die at the End - Adam Silvera

Favourite quote: If we had our entire lives ahead of us I bet you'd get tired of me telling you how much I love you because I'm positive that's the path we were heading on. But because we're about to die, I want to say it as many times as I want - I love you, I love you, I love you.

1. The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse - Charlie Mackesy

Favourite quote: When the dark clouds come... keep going.

Bonus: Children's/ Middle-grade Books

Oh, the Places You'll Go! - Dr Seuss

Favourite quote: You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane - Kate DiCamillo

Favourite quote: Open your heart. Someone will come. Someone will come for you. But first you must open your heart.
