"Count your years by smiles, not tears" - John Lennon
New lessons are learnt every day. And no, we're not talking about academic lessons. We're talking about the important stuff (joking... but not really). So you can only imagine the number of lessons acquired over a span of 21 years. Even the unfortunate events that occur teach and shape us, and this is why we should look at the years with a smile and not with a tear (wise words, Lennon!).

...and for this reason, because our birthdays are not too far apart (for all you zodiac lovers, yes, we're both Virgos), we've decided to join forces and share 21 lessons we've acquired over the years:
1. 'Never' and 'always' are very big - and unrealistic - words
2. It’s okay not to have everything figured out
3. Regrets are futile, so grow through each and every experience, even the negative ones
4. Sometimes people are not who they appear to be
5."When you love someone, it's worth fighting for no matter what the odds"
6. Although bad things may happen to you, never let yourself become a bad person
7. Take all opinions with a giant pinch of salt
8. Life’s too short not to be spending it with the people you love, doing what you love
9. Don't give up, because you never know what's right around the corner
10. Success is not measured by qualifications & money, it’s all about being happy with the life you lead
11. School gives you a false idea of friendships. As you get older, your effort to maintain them has to quadruple
12. Literally nobody is perfect. However, you are unique and that is your superpower
13. Seek knowledge and guidance, and then tailor it all to your unique self
14. It’s okay to ask for help
15. Be open - to new experiences, ideas and plans. Trying out new (and sometimes seemingly scary) things keeps life interesting
16. Be kind to yourself. You are the only person who is guaranteed to be there for you your whole life
17. Learn how to healthily process your emotions instead of avoiding them
18. There's a point in which competitiveness loses all its productivity and becomes toxic
19. Your childhood impacts you more than you'd think
20. Learn and have an enquiring, critical mind. No one can take your knowledge away from you
21. Your thoughts are you and you your thoughts. Never be too afraid to make them heard
So the next time you blow out your candles...
...dig a little deeper and reflect upon the life lessons you've been privileged to learn. With that being said, we'd like to wish all Virgos a big happy birthday, and may everyone's years be filled with enlightening experiences.
