It’s officially the most festive time of the year! And with the year the world has had, December couldn’t have come any sooner.
Christmastime is for family, love, cheer, and it’s a beautiful end to any year. One of the things I tend to get really excited about, however, is the giving aspect of Christmas. While I can’t say that I don’t love receiving Christmas presents, there’s also something really special about choosing gifts for your loved ones and then seeing their reactions as they carefully – or not so carefully – tear away the wrapping paper to get to their surprise. The problem is, sometimes you have no idea what to get someone. So if you need some gifting inspiration, keep on reading for a gift guide that will have you sorted for the holiday season.
This is what you should get for:
1. A gym junkie
I think we all have someone in our lives who's obsessed with working out and getting fit, while the rest of us love nothing more than checking the pantry every fifteen minutes in search of new snacks. Sportswear is always a great option if you know their size, or maybe a reusable water bottle to help them save the planet whilst saving their bodies. Or, if they've been working out from home due to this infamous pandemic, why not get them a brand new set of weights to add to their home gym?
2. A bookworm
Okay, I'm going to be honest with you, these are basically things that I would want, but I'm sure any bookworm in your life would say the same. Of course, a new book in their favourite genre or written by their favourite author is always a solid option. But if you're looking for something a bit more special, check out MinaLima's gorgeous collection of illustrated classics. Or if they love taking their books with them whenever they plan on spending more than 5 minutes out of the house, get them a cute book sleeve to keep their precious books safe while on the go.
3. A musician/music lover
For a musician, an accessory to go with their instrument of choice is definitely a great option, like a set of personalised guitar picks or drum sticks that they'll treasure for years to come. On the other hand, if the person you're shopping for doesn't play an instrument but just really loves music, why not a good pair of noise cancelling headphones, or maybe even a record player if they're into all things vintage?
4. Someone who loves to pamper themselves
For those who love to regularly pamper themselves, whether that's by going to the salon or recreating a spa day at home, a gift set is my favourite way to go. You'll find these in most stores, unless you want something just a bit more special. Or better yet, you could create a pamper box yourself, and that way you'll be able to fill it with all their favourite things!
5. A gamer
If you really want to treat someone, you can always splurge on the new PS5. But if you can't quite stretch your budget that far, try and find out if they're in need of some new gaming headphones, or a new controller. Also, you're generally pretty safe with buying them a brand new video game that they've been eyeing lately.
6. A sports fan
This one's pretty easy, to be fair. Get them some of their favourite team's merch, and you're golden (just don't make it too tacky, for everyone else's sake). If they haven't acquired it yet, you could even get them their team's kit for the year. Obviously, for this one, just make sure you know their favourite team, unless you want a full-blown tantrum on your hands.
Now, if that’s all too specific for you and you don't know the person you're shopping for that well...
This is what you should consider getting for:
A Secret Santa
This one can be a bit tricky if you don't know the person that well. Some (hopefully) safe bets are: a calendar/diary for the new year, a book, a mug, a little Christmas ornament, or perfume.
A newborn/toddler
Baby clothes are always a great idea, but make sure you have the right size (if in doubt, always size up). Other essentials such as a baby bottle or a dummy would also probably be greatly appreciated. And if all else fails, there is one thing the parents will practically always be grateful for: diapers!
Your in-laws
Tricky as this may be, it really doesn't have to be. If you don't want to ask your significant other for ideas, a nice bottle of wine and a beautiful Christmas decoration are my favourite to lean back on. A cute scarf or jacket is also a good option, or a really good bottle of perfume.
Hopefully you've now gathered some inspiration and your Christmas shopping list is sorted! Remember, don't let Christmas shopping stress you out too much. There's so much more about this season that matters; gift giving is really just a way to show the people in your life how much you care. It truly is always the thought that counts, no matter what anyone says.
