How to Make Sure you Stay Physically Healthy During "Lockdown"

“It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver” – Mahatma Gandhi

Seeing that we’ve discussed ways to stay mentally healthy in our last post (if you haven’t read it… *sigh*…what are you waiting for?), it is now time do the same for physical health. Both types of health are essential ingredients to being happy, at peace with yourself, and well, wealthy. They allow you to enjoy the greatest things in life, which is, after all, the true secret to being the richest fellow there is.

In other words:

Only when you are healthy

Can you be truly wealthy

Now if a rhyming couplet doesn’t stick in your head, I don’t know what will. 🤷‍♀️

Without further ado, here are 5 ways to make sure you take care of your physical health during “lockdown”:

1. Only grab healthy snacks when bingeing on Netflix

Let’s face it, we all love to devour a good old bag of salty/cheesy popcorn, or else the traditional Twistees, when watching a good movie or our favourite series. Frankly, this is not the best thing for your health. Grab, instead, a fruit, or even make yourself a nice fruit salad, and your body will appreciate it much more. Alternatively, if watching a movie is just not the same without popcorn, you can opt for the homemade version of the snack, which, (if you lay back on the oil and the bucket of salt I'm sure people making packaged popcorn throw in), makes for a much healthier substitute.

Also... stop binge eating Figolli!

2. Turn your home into a gym

Well if you did eat a lot of Figolli, worry not. You can make up for it by working out. Simply finding a 10 minute workout on YouTube (and actually starting it and finishing it), or going out for a quick jog, does great things for your health. Find what works for you, do forms of exercise that you enjoy, and I can guarantee that you will see great results.

3. Get that Vitamin D

Being "locked" at home means chances of Vitamin D deficiency. If you don't have a pet dog you regularly enjoy walks in the sunshine with (or any other pet for that matter, we don't want to offend Ravi's pet lizard) make sure you at least go out on your balcony or terrace and soak in some sunshine. You need Vitamin D for important bodily functions, and it is also important for healthy skin. You can also start working on your summer tan, but do wear sunblock if you stay out in the sun for long.

4. Stay Hydrated

Are you drinking enough water? You sure? Okay good. I ask because staying hydrated is of utmost importance when it comes to physical health. It helps in getting rid of toxins, it is important for many functions of the body, and it can also help you lose weight. Please note, however, that drinking water is not the only way to stay hydrated; many fruits and vegetables also do a great job in such a task. You should be incorporating a good amount of fruits and vegetables in your diet anyway, so (if you are doing so, of course), this should give you some peace of mind. So, one way or another, make sure you are giving your body ample water.

5. Do not skip your skin care routine

Now that your entire morning routine has changed because you don't need to get ready for school or for work, it may be tempting to also ignore your skin care routine. Although eating healthy, exercising, getting enough Vitamin D, and staying hydrated all have a great effect on your skin, your skin care routine should not be disregarded either. Let's get out of this crisis with glowing, healthy-looking skin, so that no one suspects how stressed out we actually are.

We may change homes, but we will live in our bodies for the rest of our lives. Let's make it a comfortable and safe place to live in by taking good and efficient care of it.
