Do you know what might be even better than re-watching your favourite movie for the 48th (and that's just this quarantine season alone) time? Reliving it through it's iconic soundtrack! This way you can 'watch' the movie while getting some work done, going out for a drive, or doing just about anything else, really. So for this week's blog post, I've rounded up 5 of my favourite movie soundtracks that always get me super hyped up while replaying the scenes in my mind.
P.S. The movies on this list all ended up being musicals, so I'm calling it the 'Musical Edition'. Let me know if you want a roundup of soundtracks from other genres, and I'll be happy to oblige x
1. Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
I think this first one's pretty self-explanatory. I mean, it's Queen... Need I say more? This movie is basically just an excuse to enjoy Freddie Mercury's bottomless pit of talent, and the soundtrack is what does it.
Song of choice: 'The Show Must Go On'
2. Lion King (1994)
Yes, 'Hakuna Matata' is iconic, but that's by no means the only banger on this soundtrack. I always find myself very loudly singing along to 'I Just Can't Wait To Be King', because how can you not vibe with 2 lion cubs causing mischief and a vexed bird following them around much to his annoyance?
Song of Choice: 'Circle of Life' (Elton John's version)
3. The Greatest Showman (2017)
When this movie first came out, I had the soundtrack on repeat for weeks. Then the initial fascination sadly subsided, but I recently listened to it again and I have to admit that that is still a masterpiece of a work. And I am still waiting for a Keala Settle album to be released, thank you very much.
Song of Choice: 'The Greatest Show'
4. High School Musical 3 (2008)
I don't care what anyone has to say, this movie was (and still is) one of Disney's modern-day tour de forces, and that's partly because of the amazing music it's imbued with. I'm already planning a rewatch of this come graduation - when would be a more apt time to rewatch it? - but in the meantime I'll be reliving it through songs like 'Right Here, Right Now' and 'Can I Have This Dance'.
Song of Choice: 'High School Musical'
5. A Star is Born (2018)
Much like the film, this soundtrack is just so beautifully tragic that it will stay with you long after you watch the movie. Everyone knows 'Shallow' by this point, but there are so many other (might I say better?) songs in this movie that in my opinion don't get the hype they deserve.
Song of Choice: 'Always Remember Us This Way'
Bonus!: The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
Shout out to Elisa for recommending this one, but it truly is a wonderful listen. Andrew Lloyd Webber is a renowned composer, and this cannot be argued if you have a listen to this musical composition of a movie.
Song of Choice: 'Masquerade'
