What to Watch this Christmas Season, Fa-La-La-La-La, La-La-La-La...

"Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful" - Norman Vincent Peale

It goes without saying, reader, that this magic ⬆ is reinforced in the stories we engage with during Christmastime. And since we've established that Christmas is the season of giving (refer to last week's post), my gift to you is a - very well-thought-out - list of some Christmas films/series you can watch, in an endeavour to further fill your December with that soft and beautiful Christmas sparkle.

1. Dash and Lily

My first pick for you is this lighthearted Netflix series. Don't worry if you don't usually stick to series; this one is only 8 episodes long, each of which is around 20 to 30 minutes long. Personally, the reason why I liked it so much is because it's not the typical Christmas-themed story. In a spoiler-free nutshell, it's about an honest connection between two souls, which is made all the more beautiful by its underpinning Christmas background.

2. Christmas-themed episodes from your favourite shows

Watching Friends' Christmas episodes has in fact become a yearly ritual for me. To make things easier for you, attached is a list of these. You don't have to limit yourself to Friends though, because such episodes are generally found in any series. Here are others that come to mind: How I Met Your Mother, Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, The Office and Brooklyn 99.

3. Classic Christmas movies

Home Alone, The Polar Express, A Christmas Carol, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. What would Christmas be without these classics? Despite the gazillion times we've watched them, Christmas classics are something we look forward to every year. The season would certainly not be complete without at least one.

4. Relatively new Christmas movies

Curling up with a nice Christmas-themed mug of hot chocolate and watching newer (and sometimes underrated) Christmas movies will also sprinkle some Christmas magic onto your December days. I recommend Last Christmas, The Knight Before Christmas, The Holiday Calendar, A Christmas Prince 1, 2, & 3, and The Princess Switch 1 & 2.

And if you'd much rather immerse yourself in a Christmas story through reading...

- Read a Christmas book -

This will certainly induce you to soak up just the perfect amount of holiday magic. My favourite to read is the novel on which the film A Christmas Carol is based. Charles Dickens definitely composes a masterpiece there.

Stories transport us to far away lands which make us forget reality for a brief moment. Since reality may be bleaker this year, here's a Christmas wish from me to you:

May all your Christmas watching be enjoyable, and may all your Christmases be white (metaphorically, dear Maltese and Gozitan readers).
